limoncello tiramisu summer dessert

Limoncello Tiramisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, combining the creamy richness of traditional tiramisu with the zesty, invigorating flavor of limoncello. This dessert is perfect for summer gatherings or as a sweet ending to a Mediterranean-inspired meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup limoncello liqueur
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 24 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
  • Zest of 2 lemons (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine limoncello, lemon juice, and ½ cup sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and the remaining ½ cup sugar until pale and creamy. Add mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
  4. Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled limoncello syrup for 1-2 seconds, making sure they’re moist but not soggy. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining cream mixture.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Before serving, garnish with freshly grated lemon zest.

Notes:

  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute limoncello with a mixture of lemon juice and simple syrup.
  • Make sure the mascarpone is at room temperature for easier mixing.

What To Serve With It

Though it’s tempting to enjoy Limoncello Tiramisu all on its own, I’ve found that pairing it with the right accompaniments can make the experience even more special.

For Limoncello drinks pairings, I love a chilled glass of Prosecco or a simple mint lemonade to balance the dessert’s richness.

When it comes to Italian dessert suggestions, a light panna cotta or almond biscotti work wonderfully.

A cup of strong espresso is my go-to for a classic finish.

These pairings enhance the flavors of the tiramisu without overpowering its delicate, lemony charm.

Trust me, it’s a combo worth trying!
